A PIK Loan is a type of loan which typically does not provide for any cash flows from borrower to lender between the drawdown date and the maturity or refinancing date, not even interest or parts thereof (see mezzanine loan), thus making it an expensive, high-risk financing instrument. PIK (payment in kind) is to be interpreted as interest accruing until maturity or refinancing. PIK loans are typically unsecured (ie. not backed by a pledging of assets) or with a deeply subordinated security structure (e.g., third lien). Maturities usually exceed five years and in a standard offer, the loan carries a detachable warrant (the right to purchase a certain number of shares of stock or bonds at a given price for a certain period of time) or a similar mechanism to allow the lender to share in the future success of the business, making it a hybrid security. From Google News Search: "PIK loan" What will happen if the trophy wins dry up at United? Q. I would apprecaite serious views on the following. If things get financially dire for a top 4 team the ramifications will be felt through out the proffesional game: There is a case to be made for the 666.7m of debt at Manchester United being manageable. Their revenues are strong and growing, so what is the problem? Most companies have debt - right? Perhaps a cautionary caveat may be worth adding. United have been highly successful in recent seasons, particularly last year. But even in such a successful year they didn't manage to service their debt. They paid off only 42 million of the 81 million due in interest payments last season. They have a 515 million "senior" loan repayable at a rate pegged to the inter-bank rate, and a… [cont.] Asked by loos oyz England my England - Sun May 10 07:51:15 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Did you mean House of Cards and not pack? The recent worldwide crash shows that sustaininng this level of debt is not possible forever and the bubble will burst. Man United will have dark times again, football has always been this way. It's a case of when, and not if it crashes, as it is for a few top flight clubs. Answered by Roddenberry - Sun May 10 08:13:16 2009 Setting the record straight.? Q. I have seen a lot of people posting questions here about Man United's debts and speculating over whether the club are heading for administration. There has been a lot of speculation and arguing (as always) BUT it seems nobody actually understood the situation. Here's the scoop, (put the kettle on), Manchester United was taken over by the Glaziers and the takeover was engineered by JP Morgan (huge banking corp). When the Glaziers and JPM engineered the 790M takeover the Glaziers had to take out a huge loan ( 175M). This is not included in the debt that MU owe. (more on this later). MU as a company owe 509m in debts because of this takeover, but these debts themselves are not the problem - as the annual interest on the various loans is… [cont.] Asked by Come on England!! - Thu Jan 14 17:19:29 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ha ha - you will need to invest a minimum of 50,000. Any takers? The bond if successfully subscribed to - note the IF - won't make much difference to the long-term debt, but may afford United the opportunity to start attacking the crippling PIK debt - note the MAY. . Whether investors are likely to stump up the funds to buy the bonds is debatable. When you apply you have to state what interest rate you want to receive and the bonds will be allotted at the one price (interest rate) to the successful bidders in what they call a Multiple-Unit Vickrey auction. Given the risks, the investors are likely to want a big return, meaning the club have to service higher interest rates to get their hands on the bond issue cash and thus negating the… [cont.] Answered by loos oyz England my England - Wed Jan 20 05:56:28 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "PIK loan" What is a Negative Amortizing ?
